Call for support, What’s On Dunoon.

Your time and input will bolster the future success of your Dunoon events guide!

Autumnal foraging walks, Scottish crime writing talks, Qi gong classes, second-hand book sales, gigs, markets, macrame workshops and quiz nights. These are just some of the events hosted on the What’s On Dunoon website. Local people and visitors can find out about the diversity of events and activities that are happening around town through this community-led resource. However, making sure that What’s On Dunoon is found and used by all those who can benefit from it depends on our community leading the way.

What is What’s On Dunoon?

It is more than just a website. From flea markets to heritage talks, www.whatsondunoon.co.uk is the central information point for listings of events and venues in Dunoon and Cowal. Each of the listings is added by the people organising the events, with support from our digital volunteers. From there, the volunteer team and Dunoon Community Development Trust community connectors, set about their mission to spread the word so that more people know what’s happening around town. Our volunteers in the Castle Gatehouse will show people how easy it is to upload their own events or search for something to do.

“With our strong team of digital volunteers, and a growing band of Gatehouse volunteers, we’re excited to be at the stage where we have a base from which to guide the project into its next phase,”

says Ann Campbell.

“It’s a huge milestone for everyone involved in the progression of What’s On Dunoon. But, we still have work to do to make sure this valued resource keeps going.”

Events organisers, it’s time to get uploading!

Our digital volunteers have lots of tasks to get on with as we expand our databases. If event organisers can upload their own event listings, that is a huge help!

Dinah MacDonald, who uses What’s On Dunoon to promote events happening at Bookpoint, Uig Hall and Historic Kilmun, tells us how pleased she is with the events guide:

“It’s a fabulous service, we use it for everything!”

What’s On Dunoon has a simple registration process and a simple online form for uploading content. While they do have their fingers on the pulse, we can’t expect our volunteers to know what is happening through all of Cowal all of the time. Or that they will have the time each week to upload all the new events.

Our audience on What’s On Dunoon is growing, and your event could be missed from the website and our promotions if you don’t upload it. Uploading your event also means that you are more likely to be included in the weekly email newsletter or newspaper column.

“Our volunteers should be a last resort when it comes to uploading events to the website,” says Ann Campbell at Dunoon Community Development Trust. “We aim for most of our events to be uploaded by the people who are organising them. We really encourage more people to get on board and do this. It would be a huge support to the project.”

Become a volunteer

Responding to local feedback, our digital volunteers are currently beavering away and uploading information about groups and other community organisations to the What’s On Dunoon databases. This useful new section of the website will help people to search for regular activities and support services. Our Gatehouse volunteers are busy adding information and spreading the word about the website.

“I enjoy supporting the community by sharing information about all the great events that take place here. There is so much happening in our area! The role effectively complements the volunteer work I do at the Gatehouse. On a personal level, it gives me the chance to use my IT skills.”

Barbara, What’s On Dunoon digital volunteer.

Donations and sponsorship

Funding from small grants from a range of sources has helped What’s On Dunoon become what it is. Without this funding, we wouldn’t be able to invest in the technology and expertise needed to make it happen. Every poster and newspaper column also has a cost that we need to cover.

While the website is developing positively, there are several ways that it could be even better!

Small or large, we appreciate your donations

Your donations can help us to support the continuation and development of What’s On Dunoon. Every £1 is gratefully received. Buy us a coffee and support What’s On Dunoon.

Sponsor a business directory

Trying to find caterers, carpenters, cleaners; our community is asking for a business directory beyond the confusion of Facebook and the limited listings on Google. We’re looking for a sponsor or partner to make this possible as part of What’s On Dunoon.
